The black pot was on the studio shelf and the shiny satin came from my fabric box. I love painting creases and folds. It lit up the wood like a firework against a flawless blue sky - an absolute triumph of the natural world. A lovely First Friday Walk yesterday with @walking A lovely First Friday Walk yesterday with @walking_theland out of Stroud along tracks and paths to Pitchcombe, across the A46 and back to town via Wade's Lane and Oakbrook Community Farm, on a bright, chilly day. We saw a fox down by a Brook, and were rewarded for toiling up hills and through a very muddy section of the route by the sight of the Wolf Moon rising above the trees on Wickridge Hill. Amazingly, my phone camera rose to the occasion. Thanks to @lucyguenot for the walk, and for bringing a copy of Fisher's 'Notes and Recollections of Stroud' to read from. It's years since I read it, so it came out of the bookshelf when I got home. #local history #landscape #wolfmoon #winter walk
A Merry Christmas, and fair fortune to everyone fo A Merry Christmas, and fair fortune to everyone for 2026. A peaceful, kinder, more generous-spirited year for people and planet is devoutly to be wished. This lino print is my card for this year, 'Dancing on St Stephen's Day'. Every 26th December at noon there is a gathering of Morris sides before the doors of Gloucester Cathedral, where they dance for all the good reasons and raise a collection from the crowd for the church building fund. They're followed by a company of Mummers, who perform (with various levels of skill) their traditional play. Our Christmas tree will be extra twinkly this year - and all the years to come, since we are of the 'pile it all on' persuasion - no elegant minimalism here! And it will also have to wait until the weekend before Christmas until we deck the halls as we've always done. I will be supporting Longfield Hospice this year. The studio is nearly ready; I've swept and washed The studio is nearly ready; I've swept and washed the floor, given my glass palette its annual clean, tidied the scruffier corners. There are some labels to print, a cake to make, and signs to put up on Saturday morning. Checking the weather, the sun might be out at the weekend, at least for a while! 🌤

It's such a lovely event to be a part of. I delivered my painting to the Taster exhibition @threestoreysnailsworth today and caught glimpses of some of the work that will be in the show. This little painting, Lucy's Allotment Dahlias is This little painting, Lucy's Allotment Dahlias is off to Three Storeys Nailsworth for the @autumnarts25 Taster Exhibition, to hang alongside a piece from all the artists taking part. My studio will be open on the 18/19th and 25/26th of October, with new work, a warm welcome and almost certainly cake! Lots to look at, and it should be tidy! Hope to see you there!
Just a glimpse of my residency @theoldlockupgaller Just a glimpse of my residency @theoldlockupgallery in Cromford, Derbyshire last week. I'm so grateful to Rachael for her kindness and hospitality. I tried to stay away from social media while I was there, spending the days exploring and absorbing some of the history and character of this lovely place. Creativity-wise there were too many possibilities at first; what materials to choose, where to go, what to focus on, how to make the most of a week all to myself?! After a couple of days of trying to do too much, I found a rhythm; responses began to emerge. Now that I've had a few days to reflect, it was a really valuable time to be quiet, to try things out and to simply play with materials and ideas, and explore somewhere steeped in industrial heritage. Exploring the Mills took me back to my Art A-level Architecture project, investigating cotton mills near Manchester, cast iron columns, brick vaulting, fire proofing and all. Cromford is blessed with a wonderful bookshop, @scarthinbooks and a chocolate shop for treats. A lovely walk and draw this afternoon with @susewa A lovely walk and draw this afternoon with @susewalk down between the bridges on the Severn estuary at Aust. A wonderful, atmospheric place under a great sweep of sky, the peace only slightly marred by the distant heavy drum beat carried on the wind from an afternoon rave (we guessed) across the river! @walking_theland were on a #firstfridaywalk from Penarth on the Welsh shore of the estuary. We couldn't be there, so we did our own remote version on 'our' side of the river, looking at the reeds, the strata at Aust Cliff, and the ghostly industrial archaeology of the old Ferry jetty, with the older of the two Severn bridges soaring above us. We gathered a small harvest of blackberries on the walk back from Aust Cliff. I have had to take the show down a day early as at very short notice I have to be in Bristol tomorrow morning to get my car fixed. It will take a few hours. Thankyou to everyone who came to see the exhibition @lansdownhall and bought a painting, brought interesting conversations and stories or wrote lovely comments in my book. It's been a great week in a lovely venue, and a real privilege to be able bring my work from past years out of the racks for an airing! Special thanks must go to @paulb1606 for wielding a screwdriver, filling and painting the gallery walls while I packed paintings, and helping to hang it all in the first place! If you have bought a painting, I will deliver them in the coming week, once they are carefully packed.
